Pittsburgh-based agitator Anne Feeney performs music that she says is
designed to “comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.” She is returning to West Seattle’s Highland Park neighborhood to perform on February 15.
Feeney’s bottomless song-bag draws on Irish, bluegrass, traditional, labor, pop, folk and contemporary material. She’s as likely to sing a traditional song or an obscure gem by one of her many friends in the singer/songwriter circuit as she is one of her own award-winning songs. Feeney’s anthem, “Have You Been to Jail for Justice?” is featured on Peter, Paul and Mary’s CD, “In These Times,” and also on “Carry It On,” – their 5 CD boxed set. That song was also featured in “Get Up/Stand Up: The History of Pop and Protest,” a documentary featuring the greatest protest songs of all time, which aired nationally on PBS, and worldwide.
Her latest release is “Dump the Bosses Off Your Back.” The fifteen song CD includes six new songs from Feeney as well as musical contributions from Commander Cody, the Austin Lounge Lizards, Emma’s Revolution and an all-star cast of Pittsburgh musicians. While Feeney may prefer the excitement of performances at rallies and demonstrations, she knows that many of her fans prefer pepper-spray free environments to listen to the songs and stories that make up her sometimes caustic, sometimes hilarious, always inspiring show. The woman that Utah Phillips calls the “best labor singer in North America” will perform at: Highland Park Community of Christ, 8611 11th Ave SW, West Seattle. Doors open at 6PM, the concert begins at 7PM. Admission is $10.
Highland Park Peace and Justice Events is hosting and promoting the event. HPPJE is a neighborhood venture to bring talented artists and performers with messages of social significance to the Highland Park and White Center areas. Everyone is invited – all ages, ethnicities, genders, religions or personal persuasions! For more information about this and other upcoming events check online at: www.HPPeaceJustice.wordpress.com. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
CHRISTMAS EVE EVENT REMEMBERS WORLD WAR ONE CHRISTMAS TRUCE
On Christmas Eve, 1914, between the muddy trenches along the Western Front, the armies of World War I spontaneously stopped fighting. They came out of their trenches and met each other in No Man’s Land as unlikely friends.
This Christmas Eve celebrate the 95th anniversary of the incredible “Christmas Truce.” In an inter-faith and non-sectarian event, hear the story in letters, drama and song. See images from the period and the truce. Share the hope of peace in the most unlikely of places.
Featuring performances by The Seattle Labor Chorus, Seattle-area singer Dan Roberts, Raging Grannies, and the Southwest Seattle Readers Theater. Also participating are Rabbi Daniel Septimus, of the Temple De Hirsch Sinai; Imam Hisham Farajallah, of the Idriss Mosque & Islamic Center of Washington; Pastor Jim Major, of the Highland Park Community of Christ; and Chris King, Founding President of the Seattle Chapter of Americans United for the Separation of Church and State, representing a secularist perspective.
The event is free of charge, but seating is limited. The doors open at 6PM; the program begins at 7PM and will not last more than an hour and-a-half. The event will take place at the Highland Park Community of Christ, at 8611 11th Ave SW – next to Highland Park Elementary School and the park and ball-fields.
